Blow-out With Your Round Brush

If you are not achieving the right out of the salon look with your round brush you may not be using it the right way. When used with the heat of a blow dryer the metal core of the brush heats up, shaping the hair from the inside out. The smaller the brushes the more likely they will work like rollers to create curl and movement, the larger round brushes the more smooth tresses and body added. Here are a few tips on how to achieve that professional stylist blow-out using just your round brush.

After washing your strands towel dry your hair, do not brush wet hair to detangle this will only cause breakage. Next put in the product of your choice, if you are trying to increase volume try Aveda's volumizing tonic and/or phomiollant. Begin blow drying only drying the hair up to 75%, then section your hair in multiple areas. Start by round brushing your hair under in the bottom section, repeat with each section leaving the bangs for last.  When you have finished just make sure to unplug all styling tools before rushing off to where ever you’re going. You look great!

Curl Your Hair Like The Professionals

Start with the right shampoo and conditioner. If your hair contains frizz we recommend to use Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner. If you have very fine hair and would like to add volume try Aveda’s Pure Abundance Shampoo and Conditioner to lift fine hair and fill it out. Try Be Curly Shampoo and Conditioner moisturize and reduce frizz to set you up for styling success. Always blot wet hair dry with a towel. Don't rub—rubbing creates more frizz.

 

 

Try not to shampoo every day. The natural oils in your scalp are beneficial to the health of your hair. Remember that curly hair needs moisture. Use Be Curly Curl Enhancer when hair is damp and Be Curly Curl Control once hair is dry to keep curls moisturized, defined and frizz-free.  Blow dry hair on low speed with high heat for best results and to avoid heat damage. For extra lift and volume, flip head upside down when blow drying. Avoid running fingers through hair as it dries. It causes curls to separate and become frizzy. 

For on-the-go touch ups keep Be Curly Curl Control in your purse to redefine and de-frizz as needed throughout the day. Don't brush or comb curly hair when dry, it removes curl and causes frizz. Spritz curls with a firm hold hairspray. Pure Abundance Volumizing Hairspray prevents frizz in humid and/or windy conditions. Wrap hair in a silk scarf before bed tohelp prevent frizz while sleeping.

Neck Moisturizing: Your Layers of Skin Care

Many women worry about the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and face skin care while forgetting the fragile neck skin just below. Degraded collagen and a loss of elasticity make all your skin, not just your face, more prone to wrinkles, sagging, and uneven coloration as you age. In fact, the skin on the neck is even thinner than on the face, making it even more vulnerable to fine lines and sun damage.

The use of a good moisturizer can help prevent causes of wrinkles around the neck and help the prevention of neck wrinkles. As most women grow older, their body fat redistributes to different areas. Instead of losing fat in desirable areas like the stomach and thighs, most women tend to lose fat around the: Neck, Eyes, and Cheeks

Lack of fat under these areas means there is a reduced level of support for the skin. This can result in the sagging skin around the neck and throat that is sometimes referred to as "turkey neck."

Other factors that contribute to sagging skin in the neck region is the loss proteins found in the dermis layer of the skin called collagen and elastin. Collagen gives your skin firmness and strength, while elastin provides your skin with flexibility. As you age, less collagen is produced and the elastin becomes weakened and worn out. When combined with fat loss, it's a recipe for neck wrinkles.

Josephine’s 4^th Annual Pretty in Pink Gala is Coming Soon!

Did you know 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime? At Josephine’s Day Spa & Salon we’re working harder and harder each year to help lower that number! We host an annual Pretty in Pink Gala every October to help support Breast Cancer Awareness and raise money to help find a cure. Last year we raised $4,279! Our goal is to beat that number this year! 100% of our proceeds are donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health. Currently, 91 cents of every dollar spent by BCRF is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness programs.
